Company Profile:

The Reserve Bank of India was established on April 1, 1935 in accordance with the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The Central Office of the Reserve Bank was initially established in Calcutta but was permanently moved to Mumbai in 1937. The Central Office is where the Governor sits and where policies are formulated. Though originally privately owned, since nationalisation in 1949, the Reserve Bank is fully owned by the Government of India.

Educational Qualifications (as on 01-09-2018):

a) Bachelor’s Degree in Law recognized by the Bar Council of India for the purpose of enrollment as an Advocate with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent in the aggregate of all semesters/years; and
b) Master’s Degree / Ph.D in Law from a recognized university.

Experience (as on 01-09-2018):

Essential: At least ‘fifteen years’ experience as an Advocate or as a Law Officer in the Legal Department of a large bank/financial institution /statutory corporation or in the Legal Department of Central/State Government or as a partner in a Law firm providing legal advice.
Desirable: Experience in Taxation laws, International laws, laws relating to Banking, Payment Systems, Forex and Cyber / IT Laws.

Age (as on 01-09-2018):

Should not be below 45 years and above 55 years.

Responsibilities:

Providing legal opinion on the matters referred by the Bank.
Providing legal advice on policy issues, support and guidance on any legal matters as desired by the Top Management.
Assisting Governor / Deputy Governor / Top Management whenever they are required to depose before the various committees of Parliament or any other such forum.
Providing support for finalizing the strategies for dealing with Court cases of importance for the Bank.
Vetting of draft legislation and sub-ordinate legislation.
Attending Conference with Legal Counsels whenever outside opinion is sought by the Bank and participating in meetings with Senior Government officials, when required by the Bank.
Preparing draft pleadings, briefing the Bank’s Advocates, attending proceedings before the court, etc.
Any other work as may be assigned by the Bank from time to time.
